House in Carapicuiba (SP, Brazil), by Angelo Bucci and Alvaro Puntoni
“The most striking feature of the site where the house is built is a six-meter drop separating the street from a lower level of the land, next to a small forest on the opposite side. The lower level of the terrain can barely be seen from the street because of the steep drop.”
They make me proud… ;)

Be a Neighborhood Hero (and Earn Some Cash) by Sharing Your Driveway
Have you ever been stuck circling the block waiting for a parking space to open up? The new ParkCirca space-sharing service might make that a thing of the past. Co-founder and CEO Chadwick Meyer told me how he was fruitlessly hunting for a space when he noticed how many private driveways had no cars in them. Why not let the driveway owners make some money from them, and save stress (and gas) for the drivers at the same time?

The winning projects for the Solar Park South international design competition in Calabria, Italy have recently been announced. The brief called for a ‘Solar Highway’ by re-using Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway sections between Scilla and Bagnara to be decommissioned by the Italian Highways Authority. The international jury selected three winning projects as well as ten Honorable Mentions.
First Prize: PR+OFF (France) From the project description: “The bridges allow a limited impact on the landscape. The local culture of bergamotte demonstrates the region’s perfectly tempered weather (8°-30°C), and the volcanic area reveals a high energy potential. The climate and the site inspire vertical villages for the european snowbirds (housing/medical equipment/entertainment/shops) that are connected by walkways to the sea and highways to the cities. This contemporary archeology (the bridge over the bridge) results in a process where urban falls meet the climbing nature. The vertical privacy of the inhabited piles supports the horizontal sociability of the public equipped decks, while providing a unique view for each one, at every level. The combination between the infrastructure and the environment is efficient enough to establish a new responsible high quality way of living.”
The system is autonomous regarding the main resources water and energy thanks to the rainwater and the geothermal power.

25-Year Refab: Concrete Factory Converted to Castle Home
Over a quarter of a century ago, an architect stumbled upon the half-ruined remains of an old cement factory. The grounds contained dozens of silos, vast subterranean spaces and long-silent manufacturing equipment
Decades later, the results of his ongoing renovation project are beyond remarkable. The complex now houses its re-designer, Gothic-influenced Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, serving as his primary residence.
Layers of lush greenery – ivy, cypress, eucalyptus, palm and olive trees – have been slowly added (and subsequently grown) throughout this piece-by-piece remodel, giving the exterior grounds new life as well as the interior areas.
Also, I do believe the architect is married to Paulina Rubio, and that the house was featured on cribs:
