This underground home will “virtually disappear” into the landscape. Anchored by a central living room, this four-bedroom home is an “architectonic extension of the natural topography,” according to the firm. It will be just shy of 27,000 square feet with floor to ceiling windows throughout. The home will feature an infinity pool, vineyard-like gardens, and views similar to those seen at the Getty Museum. Built into the Moraga Peak of the Santa Monica Mountains, this land was once gifted by Howard Hughes to the chief engineer of The Spruce Goose. The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy will provide Painter protection from unwanted neighbors as the land North of the property cannot be developed. Brad Kelley is the home’s Project Architect, and both Robin Donaldson (AIA) and Russell Shubin (AIA) are the residence’s Principal Architects.”

The Spain Pavilion will have a steel structure and a wicker cover. Spanish handcrafters will weave out different patterns by using different colors of wicker, said Benedetta Tagliabue, designer of the pavilion. The wicker will be covered by a special material that is water-proof. It will also keep the pavilion at a comfortable temperature, said Tagliabue. With sunshine penetrating through the wicker, visitors will be able to enjoy a nice walk in the open air, the designer said. “Spain has a very long history in making wicker-weaving products. We know that China has that kind of handicraft too. So we thought this was something we had in common,” said Tagliabue. (via Spain pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai China)

“The project is located over the Los Angeles river and it’s very related to it, as most of its structure will be built from trash salvaged from the river itself.  This project will achieve what many have been looking for, and that is to reconnect with the river that crosses LA. And I think that it will make it.”

I plan on trying to do my final model similar to this, however they poured the concrete. I need to learn that.
